Annual forecast: Global wind, solar and water power generation capacity will increase by 2026

On February 5, the National Climate Center of the China Meteorological Administration and the Global Energy Internet Development Cooperation Organization jointly released the Annual Forecast of Global Solar Water Power Generation Capacity 2026. According to the annual forecast, the global "wind, solar and water" power generation capacity is expected to increase by 2026: wind power generation capacity will increase by 6%, photovoltaic power generation capacity will increase by about 25%, and hydropower power generation capacity will increase by about 7%. According to the annual forecast, the total wind and photovoltaic power generation capacity in China will increase by about 2% and 25% respectively by 2026. It is expected that the inflow of water from the northwest region will increase and the inflow from the southwest may decrease throughout the year. Xiong Shaoyuan, Deputy Director of the China Meteorological Administration, said at a press conference that China's power system has entered a new stage dominated by new energy, with renewable energy accounting for over 60% of installed capacity by the end of 2025. In the context of energy pattern reconstruction and climate change, the new power system has an urgent need for climate resource assessment and extreme disaster warning. The integration of meteorology and energy has become a key measure to ensure energy security. The annual forecast released this time will provide scientific reference for power planning and trading. Xiong Shaoyuan stated that the China Meteorological Administration and the National Energy Administration have jointly issued the "Guiding Opinions on Promoting the Construction of Energy Meteorological Service System". The China Meteorological Administration will place energy meteorological services in a prominent position, continue to promote the construction of energy meteorological service system, strengthen the transformation of achievements, and enhance collaborative innovation. Liu Zehong, Vice Chairman of the Global Energy Internet Development Cooperation Organization, said that wind power and photovoltaic power generation have significant randomness and volatility, and high-quality development and utilization need to improve the prediction level of long-term power generation capacity.
