The International Energy Agency recently released a report predicting that from now until 2030, the average annual growth rate of global electricity demand will exceed 3.5%, and by 2030, the combined proportion of renewable energy and nuclear power in the global electricity structure will rise to 50%. This annual report on the global power system and market, "Electricity 2026," states that from now until 2030, the growth rate of electricity demand is expected to be at least 2.5 times that of overall energy demand, driven by factors such as rising industrial electricity consumption, continued popularity of electric vehicles, increased electricity consumption for air conditioning, and increased electricity consumption for data centers and artificial intelligence. Emerging and developing economies remain the main engines of electricity demand growth, while electricity consumption in developed economies has also begun to rise after 15 years of stagnant growth. The report states that driven by the record deployment of solar power facilities, global renewable energy generation is in the process of surpassing coal-fired power generation, and the latest data shows that the two will be almost on par by 2025. Nuclear power generation is also setting new records. It is expected that by 2030, renewable energy and nuclear power combined will provide 50% of the world's electricity, up from the current 42%. With the development of renewable energy, the share of coal-fired power generation in the global electricity mix is expected to decline, and is expected to fall back to the level of 2021 by 2030. Therefore, carbon emissions in the global power generation sector are expected to remain roughly stable from now until 2030. (New Society)
