Guarding the homeland amidst the snow capped mountains and dense forests

2026-02-09

In winter, the mountains of Yumai Township, Longzi County, Shannan City, Xizang are covered with snow. Four border guards walked through the snow capped mountains in the morning light, with 50 year old Pububu carrying the national flag on his shoulders and walking at the forefront of the team, followed closely by Solanduoji, Laba Tsering, and Lobsang Robe. The land they guarded was the home of Zhuoga, Yangzong sisters and their father, Sanjay Quba, who had guarded for more than half a century. Yumai Township is located at the southern foot of the the Himalayas. Due to its cold and precipitous natural environment, it used to be only Sanjiecuba, his daughters Zhuoga and Yangzong lived there for a long time, so it was once called "Three People Township". For many years, the father and daughter have upheld the belief that "home is jade wheat, and the country is China", grazing and guarding the border, and planting national flags on the patrol roads. Today, in Yumai Township, the border guards like the four Pubrob people continue to relay and fulfill their duties. They patrol the border in the snow area day after day along the road that Zhuoga and the sisters of Yangzong have walked. They inherit the border guard spirit of the older generation, measure the land with their feet, and guard their homes with loyalty. (New Society)
