On February 9th, the Water Patrol Brigade of Yunnan Provincial Public Security Department announced that on the morning of the 9th, three Chinese law enforcement boats, 53106, 53107, and 53108, set sail from Jingha Police Pier in Xishuangbanna, sounding their horns, marking the official launch of the 162nd China Laos Myanmar Thailand Mekong River Joint Patrol and Law Enforcement Operation. The Lao side 003 boat and the Myanmar side 161 boat that participated in the operation set sail from the ports of Mengmo in Laos and Wanbang in Myanmar, respectively. After the law enforcement boats from all parties converge in the designated waters of the Mekong River, they will form a joint formation to carry out joint patrol and law enforcement operations. Prior to the operation, the relevant law enforcement departments of the four countries held a joint command meeting in Jinghong City, Xishuangbanna Prefecture, to discuss and reach consensus on deepening law enforcement cooperation and maintaining shipping safety and stability in response to the approaching Spring Festival and busy shipping on the Mekong River. This operation has established a joint command post on Chinese vessel 53107, which is jointly commanded by the commanders of the four parties. During the operation, the joint formation will carry out joint land and water inspections, joint propaganda and other actions in key waters of the Mekong River, and severely crack down on various cross-border illegal and criminal activities. In addition, the law enforcement departments of the four countries will hold an information exchange meeting in Laos to jointly assess the current security situation in the Mekong River Basin, and conduct in-depth consultations on specific measures to strengthen basin security governance and deepen multilateral law enforcement cooperation.
