The 'barometer' of the development of aerospace and defense technology

2026-02-12

On February 3rd, the biennial Singapore Airshow once again kicked off. As an important international aerospace and defense exhibition in the Asia Pacific region, the Singapore Airshow can be seen as a "barometer" of global aerospace and defense technology development in a sense. So, what are the characteristics and highlights of this air show, and how is the participation of China's weapons and equipment? At the "stage" air show, the most eye-catching feature of multiple fighter jets is their flight performance. During the 10th Singapore Airshow, a total of 6 Air Force aerobatic performance teams appeared on this large "stage". Among them, the Chinese Air Force August 1st Flight Show Team became the focus of attention throughout the venue. This is the second time the aerobatic team has been invited to participate in the 7th Singapore Airshow since 2020, and it is also the first time the aerobatic team has flown the J-10C fighter jet at the Singapore Airshow. Under the blue sky and white clouds, the aerobatic performance of the Bayi Flying Show Team sparked cheers from the audience. The debut of difficult movements such as "six aircraft formation rolling" brought a strong sensory impact to the audience. The domestically produced commercial aircraft C919 and C909 also participated in this year's air show, with the C919 aircraft performing a flight demonstration. Along with the J-10C and C919 fighter jets, F-16 and F-35A fighter jets also made their debut on the same field. The Royal Australian Air Force's F-35A fighter jet conducted its first public flight demonstration. The Su-30MKM fighter jets equipped by Malaysia also performed, with actions such as "Pugachev Cobra maneuver" and launching hot flares, once again stirring up the atmosphere on site. As a relatively modern member of the "sideguard" family, the Su-30MKM fighter jet integrates the French company Thales' flat-panel display, the "Damocles" laser aiming pod, and the Swedish company Saab's electronic warfare system. It has the ability to mount Western precision guided weapons and is one of the few fighter jets compatible with Russian and NATO standard weapons. Outdoor war eagles soar, and there are numerous indoor exhibits. This year's air show attracted thousands of companies from over 50 countries and regions, with a total of 16 national pavilions including China, France, and Germany. The exhibits in each exhibition area are overwhelming. The systematization of aviation equipment in our country is closely focused on systematic combat, which is the most distinctive feature of the development of weapons in the new era. The systematic development of aviation equipment is an active response from China's military enterprises to the new era exam. The systematic presentation of domestically produced equipment is one of the main features of the military parade commemorating the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Anti Japanese War in 2025. At this year's Singapore Airshow, the systematization of China's aviation equipment was also showcased through the careful display of the Aviation Industry Group. The large-scale model of the J-35A fighter jet is located in the C-position of the China Aviation Industry Corporation exhibition area. As a new generation stealth fighter independently developed by our country, the J-35A focuses on air superiority operations while also taking into account enemy operations. It is an important component of the stealth and anti stealth combat system. Around the J-35A fighter jet, several themed exhibition booths have been set up in an orderly manner, including "Advanced Air Control Operations," "Counter Strike Operations," "Surveillance and Coordination," "Training Efficiency Enhancement," "Rapid Support and Support," and "Emergency Rescue System. Each themed booth corresponds to a functional system, and different aircraft models are grouped according to their roles in combat. Taking the "Advanced Air Warfare" themed exhibition booth, which is the most popular among the audience, as an example, the Attack-11, J-20, J-10CE, "JF-17" FTC-2000G、 Models of aircraft such as KJ-500 are arranged one by one on top of it. If air combat is a 'hunt', then in this system, the KJ-500 early warning aircraft, like a falcon, can detect the traces of prey in complex environments with its keen sense of smell and hearing; As an unmanned combat aircraft independently developed by the Aviation Industry Group with high stealth, strong breakthrough, and precise strike capabilities, the Attack-11 drone is like an owl at night, capable of striking heavily fortified enemy targets; The J-20, J-10CE, JF-17, and FTC-2000G fighter jets are like golden eagles and peregrine falcons, capable of using their respective strengths to hunt different "prey". Drones and cruise missiles have added "new faces" as equipment that has attracted attention from various countries in recent years. The rapid development of drones and cruise missiles is also reflected in this year's air show. Singapore's technology engineering company showcased the new generation of "Eagle Strike" intelligent cruise missiles at this year's air show. It is reported that the cruise missile adopts a rectangular body, equipped with a pair of foldable flat wings, and four foldable tail fins arranged in an "X" shape. The maximum combat radius is 20 kilometers, the longest clearance time is 30 minutes, and the maximum flight speed is 108 kilometers per hour. The "Eagle Strike" intelligent patrol missile warhead is equipped with a multi-channel infrared/electro-optical guidance head and a series of armor piercing warheads. If necessary, it can also be replaced with explosive killing warheads and temperature pressure warheads. The cruise missile is currently mainly launched from wheeled/tracked vehicles, but can also be integrated into combat ships, helicopters, and drones as needed. It is said that the "Eagle Strike" intelligent patrol missile will also have the "swarm" combat function in the future, with the ability to form "missile missile" networks and coordinate operations. The DrN-600 drone, also from this company, is a transport aircraft. The machine adopts an upward lifting cargo door layout, resembling a small whale swallowing. The DrN-600 drone is dual-use and can be used for military logistics missions. The aircraft is a fully electric vertical takeoff and landing drone with a maximum takeoff weight of 600 kilograms and a maximum payload of 100 kilograms, with a range of 70 to 120 kilometers. Its emergence marks a new addition to the Asia Pacific medium load unmanned aerial vehicle field. At this year's air show, Korea Aerospace Industries showcased models of its unmanned collaborative aircraft series. This series is divided into two types: small unmanned cooperative aircraft and medium unmanned cooperative fighter aircraft, which are 150kg launch disposable unmanned aerial vehicles and 5.4-ton reusable takeoff and landing unmanned aerial vehicles, respectively, and can be used for reconnaissance or coordinated strike missions. Among them, small unmanned collaborative aircraft are equipped with artificial intelligence modules, with a maximum speed of 0.65 Mach, and can also choose to install different warheads. The maximum payload in the cabin of a medium-sized unmanned cooperative fighter jet is 1200 kilograms, with a maximum speed of 0.85 Mach. It can perform missions independently or under the control of a manned aircraft, with a range of approximately 2600 kilometers. (New Society)
