AI is sweeping across, why is quality education more important
2026-02-27
Before the Spring Festival, Seedance 2.0 ushered in a new era of AI video generation, enabling artificial intelligence to have higher-level image generation capabilities; At the Spring Festival Gala of the Year of the Horse, Chinese "kung fu robots" completed high difficulty movements such as table flipping, parkour, and catapult flips... As artificial intelligence technology accelerates iteration, more and more people are starting to rethink: what is the essence of education? How to cultivate talents that cannot be replaced by artificial intelligence? Not long ago, at the "Symposium on the 30th Anniversary of Strengthening Cultural Quality Education in Universities" held at Tsinghua Park, as a witness to the development of quality education, Wang Yiqiu, the former executive vice president of Peking University at the age of 93, reflected on the new technological wave by saying, "Why can humans defeat robots? Quality education plays a very important role." Even before the outbreak of artificial intelligence technology, in 1995, 52 pilot universities opened the curtain on cultural quality education work. Subsequently, the Ministry of Education has established 97 national cultural and quality education bases for college students, covering 157 universities. Nowadays, the "Outline of the Plan for Building a Strong Education Country (2024-2035)" clearly emphasizes the need to "deepen the implementation of quality education, improve the comprehensive training system of morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor, and accelerate the filling of the gaps in physical education, aesthetic education, and labor education." In the view of Lin Huiqing, President of the China Association of Higher Education, artificial intelligence is profoundly reshaping the new era of education. Education should not only follow the progress of science and technology, but also pay more attention to improving students' humanistic literacy, emphasizing the shaping of complete personality, and cultivating students' sense of social responsibility, critical thinking, social practice, and ethical action. Quality education should focus on cultivating individuals who can master AI rather than being shaped by it. ”After thirty years of ups and downs, the development of quality education in universities has reached a new historical turning point. Former Deputy Minister of Education Zhou Yuanqing mentioned that quality education is an eternal theme of educational philosophy. Quality education takes cultural quality education as the starting point and breakthrough point. It 'rises with a single call and remains prosperous for a long time' because of the word 'culture'. Its essence, characteristics, and charm are all in the word 'culture'. The smarter AI is, the more crucial quality education is. "Gong Ke, former president of Nankai University, mentioned a public research data that expressed the voice of many educators on site:" Nowadays, students love to use AI for homework and writing articles. "This survey shows that 8% of students directly regard the content generated by AI as their own achievements. Is artificial intelligence helping students learn or thinking for them? "Gong Ke believes that this question hits the core proposition of current education. When AI can efficiently complete information retrieval, logical reasoning, and even prove mathematical hypotheses, who controls the concept of using technology? How to ensure the good development of artificial intelligence? To answer this series of questions, in Gong Ke's opinion, the AI era has actually put forward higher requirements for quality education work. The changing demand for talent in the enterprise also confirms his judgment. Nowadays, enterprises urgently need composite talents with digital literacy and value judgment ability, and our education must adapt to this transformation. Gong Ke frankly stated that how to integrate digital literacy into cultural quality education and cultivate new era talents with both moral cultivation and technical ability has become an important proposition in current education reform. Wang Bo has been deeply involved in universities for many years. Now, as the Vice President of Beijing Institute of Technology, he is also pondering the same question: as more and more students in the classroom hold electronic devices and use artificial intelligence to retrieve course content in real time and question teaching viewpoints, "How can we do quality education well in this era?" In order to understand the boundary between AI and human abilities, Wang Bo studied the latest model released by Google. He found that AI has strong abilities in information retrieval, thinking integration, memory, and proof, and can prove human mathematical conjectures. Its reasoning mode is even better than that of humans; Nowadays, embodied intelligence also possesses basic mobility. He admitted that at first glance, there may be a pessimistic idea that 'what humans can do, machines can do', but after in-depth analysis, he found that there are two core abilities of humans that AI cannot replace in the foreseeable future. One is the curiosity to explore the unknown, which is the instinct of living organisms; The second is imagination, which refers to the ability to make conjectures. AI can prove the Goldbach Conjecture, but cannot come up with such a conjecture. ”In Wang Bo's view, AI cannot replace human creativity. In recent years, Beijing Institute of Technology has reduced repetitive courses, "water courses", and purely knowledge-based courses, and established a science and education center to empower quality education with artificial intelligence throughout the process. In Wang Bo's view, in the era of artificial intelligence, quality education has not lost its meaning, and with the promotion of technology, personalized training can be achieved, making it possible to teach students according to their aptitude. The development of quality education over the past 30 years has accelerated the elimination of the drawbacks of exam oriented education, improved the quality of education, and now stands on the historical trend of "AI+education", becoming a new foothold for promoting the development of everyone, comprehensive development, individual development, and lifelong development. In the words of Hu Xianzhang, former Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Tsinghua University, "We should further understand the contemporary value of cultural quality education. Its significance has long gone beyond simple teaching reform, and deeply touched on the way of university education, the root of national spirit, and the continuity of civilization." In the AI era, quality education encounters new challenges. AI technology is changing, students' thinking is changing, and education models are changing, which also poses a growth issue for quality education in the next 10 years. Entering the era of AI, Wang Huan, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Xi'an Jiaotong University, clearly feels that there have been new changes in the student population. The phenomenon of "group loneliness" is becoming increasingly evident, and it is becoming more and more difficult for schools to organize collective activities. This poses great challenges to the work of quality education. Some changes at the student level have also exposed many difficulties in the practice of quality education. Wang Huan bluntly stated that there is a lack of collaborative design between professional education and quality education. At the same time, the connection between quality education in primary, secondary, and tertiary schools is poor, and the coverage of resources and teachers is insufficient. The construction of a quality education evaluation system is equally challenging. The evaluation of quality education lacks objective support and full chain tracking, "Wang Huan said with some confusion." We are thinking that quality education always feels elusive. "For many years, Xi'an Jiaotong University has focused on building four courses for college students, including network media literacy, exploration of college students' spiritual growth, security literacy, and career planning, to make up for the shortcomings in students' quality and ability. At the same time, schools utilize AI and big data to transform the quality evaluation system from a linear static state to a multi-dimensional dynamic state, making quality evaluation systematic and evidence-based. Zhao Zuowei, Secretary of the Party Committee of Dalian University, also paid attention to the difficulties in guiding students' ideological values: "College students are Internet natives who are active in thinking and have family and country in mind, but the impact of multiple information makes them easy to be confused." He believed that the core of quality education is the deep integration of humanistic quality and scientific quality, which should not only enable students to have excellent skills, but also have family and country feelings; We need to have social responsibility, resilience, and a sense of collective honor. Many educators admit that quality education is like a "big basket", with everything packed inside and unclear conceptual boundaries, making it difficult to grasp the key points in practice. Some people have also pointed out that quality education is a "slow variable", often requiring 10 or 20 years of investment to see results. However, some universities focus on project applications, achievement awards, and other work, resulting in quality education work becoming a "sham". Quality education is a true educational revolution, and the task of achieving its goals is extremely arduous. In the future, comprehensive reforms should be implemented, especially in strengthening the reform of talent training models, curriculum systems, and teaching methods. ”Chen Yi, former director of the Academic Affairs Office of Southeast University, called on the scene that quality education is related to the direction and future of education, and requires a "relay race" from generation to generation to promote progress in quality education work. Quality education is evolving itself to shape students' patriotism and innovative spirit, and a series of new efforts in quality education are gradually being carried out in many universities. Liu Hui, chief expert of the College Student Cultural Quality Education Center at the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, mentioned that 30 years ago, cultural quality education was aimed at solving the problems of education at that time and promoting cutting-edge educational ideas. 30 years later, artificial intelligence technology has brought about tremendous changes in teaching content, teaching methods, and talent cultivation methods, and "cultural quality education has also undergone self evolution". At the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, a cross-border integration experiment of technology, art, and education is slowly unfolding. In order to break the traditional art education that focuses solely on technical training and lacks artistic creation education design; Art courses are simply stacked in the training program, with scattered resources and a lack of systematic design for interdisciplinary integration. In 2016, the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China, relying on the College Student Cultural Quality Education Center and in collaboration with Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, took the lead in exploring the cultivation of top-notch innovative talents in new engineering disciplines nationwide. Art was integrated into the training program, and the final educational achievements were presented in the form of new media art exhibitions. Over the past 8 years, this series of cultural quality education explorations has formed a unique training model of new engineering and new art. Liu Hui said, "The core is to cultivate students' innovation ability and innovation quality." At Nankai University, an aesthetic education curriculum system has been established and credit requirements have been set. The classroom has also been moved to museums and art galleries, and multiple courses such as Peking Opera art and opera appreciation have been offered, integrating traditional culture into ideological and political courses. At Harbin Engineering University, a plan to create quality education has been implemented. Two colleges will be piloted to offer a one credit university art education course, and students will be encouraged to join cultural and artistic clubs. Putting education first and prioritizing moral education. Quality education is not a one-day effort, but it can cultivate talents for future generations. After years of focusing on quality education work, Liu Xianjun, former deputy secretary of the Party Committee of Huazhong University of Science and Technology, suggested that we should closely integrate with the new requirements of the quality era for cultural quality education, make good use of artificial intelligence technology, and enrich the path and methods of cultural quality education. In the face of new situations and circumstances, we need to have new ideas and measures, and strive to promote cultural quality education to a new stage. The symposium lasted for over three hours, and 93 year old Wang Yiqiu heard the final message from his seat. As he had hoped in his speech, "Quality education cannot be hot and cold at times, it must be persisted in
