On March 26, at the annual meeting of Zhongguancun Forum - RISC-V Ecological Science and Technology Forum, the Chinese Academy of Sciences officially announced a series of important achievements in the field of RISC-V key technology breakthrough, industrial collaborative innovation and talent training, focused on the release of two important achievements of "Xiangshan" open-source processor and "Ruyi" native operating system, and officially launched the joint research and development of the next generation chip and operating system. Experts introduce that RISC-V is a globally free and open chip underlying architecture, equivalent to the "universal standard" in the chip industry. It does not require patent fees and can be independently modified, which is one of the important routes for China to break through the chip ecosystem and develop controllable computing power. The performance of the "Xiangshan" open-source high-performance RISC-V processor released at the meeting has reached the international advanced level, and the world's first open-source on-chip interconnect network IP has been simultaneously launched, making it an internationally leading open-source high-performance RISC-V processor system. The "Ruyi" RISC-V native operating system takes the lead in fully supporting international standards, further consolidating the foundation of China's leading open source software. At present, high-performance open-source chips have achieved large-scale industrial implementation. Enterprises such as Jindian Space, Bluechip Computing, Xindong Technology, and Yisiwei Computing have successfully launched commercial chips based on the "Xiangshan" processor, significantly reducing their R&D costs and allowing open-source chips to truly move from the laboratory to the production line. At the forum, the joint development of the next-generation "Kunming Lake" architecture and the joint development of the "Ruyi" operating system were launched simultaneously. China Mobile, China Telecom, ZTE, Ali, Tencent, ByteDance and other dozens of units will work together to tackle key problems, covering the whole chain of chips, operating systems, terminals and applications, and accelerate the formation of an innovation system with close integration of industry, university, research and application. Ding Chibiao, Vice President of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, said that China has built a full chain RISC-V development system integrating technology research, industry implementation and talent training, and successfully walked out a "Chinese path" for the implementation of open source chip industry. In terms of talent cultivation, the Chinese Academy of Sciences has simultaneously upgraded the "Life Core 2.0" and the "Lighting Plan 2.0". The project covers more than 1100 colleges and universities at home and abroad, attracting more than 27000 participants, and continuously delivering high-quality talents to the global open source chip industry.
