Embodied intelligence moves from "kung fu show" to "workflow"
2026-03-30
Industrial robots achieve autonomous operation throughout the entire process of package grabbing, waybill recognition, and sorting of irregular parts, increasing logistics sorting efficiency by 40% compared to traditional manual labor; Humanoid robots make their debut in the automotive assembly process, with a precision assembly and welding accuracy of ± 0.02mm, breaking away from traditional "performance style" displays; Multi brand heterogeneous robots rely on a unified operating system to complete closed-loop services throughout the entire process of ordering, production, and delivery, verifying the commercial feasibility of multi machine collaboration... At the 2026 Zhongguancun Forum, embodied intelligence will become the most dazzling cutting-edge track. Several executives from participating companies told reporters that the Zhongguancun Forum allows people to observe the potential applications of embodied intelligence in various fields such as industry, services, and healthcare. Behind this, embodied intelligence is facing multiple development opportunities supported by policies, capital, and technology, moving from a laboratory "kung fu show" to an industrialized "workflow" and gradually achieving a commercial closed loop. The breakthrough growth of embodied intelligence cannot be achieved without the guidance of top-level design and the continuous support of policy dividends. The "Artificial Intelligence+Manufacturing" special action plan jointly issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology and eight other departments supports the large-scale application of embodied intelligence in industrial scenarios. Beijing, Shanghai, Hangzhou and other places have simultaneously launched special subsidies, scene opening and other supportive policies, building a full chain policy support system from top-level design to local implementation. Under the guidance of policies, China's embodied intelligence industry has experienced explosive growth. According to the "Top 10 Future Industries in 2026" released by the China Academy of Electronic Information Industry Development during the Zhongguancun Forum, humanoid robots and embodied intelligence rank first among the top 10 tracks, and the global embodied intelligence market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 73% in the next five years, reaching 238.8 billion yuan by 2030. As the industry continues to heat up, how can embodied intelligence truly enter the core processes of production lines and achieve an upgrade from "replacing human labor" to "empowering life"? For this problem, Wu Yiming, a researcher of the Chinese Academy of Sciences Xi'an Institute of Optics and Precision Machinery and chairman of Xi'an Zhongke Optoelectronics Precision Engineering Co., Ltd. (Tongren Intelligent), told reporters during the Zhongguancun Forum that in the process of industrial landing, robots need to complete the whole process of perception, decision-making and action in the physical world, which requires that the underlying symbols of robots be effectively mapped to the specific objects and structures of the physical world. Therefore, he believes that mathematical tools can be used to characterize the object structure and spatial construction information perceived by robots, accurately describing the overall and local characteristics of physical objects through topological coordinates and other methods, so that machines are no longer simply symbolic operation tools, but intelligent agents that can truly perceive and understand the physical world. For example, when describing a table, using mathematical models to define the local structures such as edges and slopes of the table, as well as the distance, orientation, and other relationships between each structure, allows the machine to form a complete understanding of the physical object. ”Wu Yiming believes that practitioners of embodied intelligence should focus their research and development work on the underlying theory and algorithm level, rather than on big data collection and hardware investment with high computing power, in order to lower the threshold for the large-scale implementation of embodied intelligence technology. In terms of scenario application and industrial upgrading, high value-added discrete manufacturing and unstructured scenarios are important entry points for the implementation of embodied intelligence technology. Wu Yiming stated that embodied intelligence should be developed in the direction of "starting from essential scenarios and verifying value through practical implementation". The core demand for upgrading high-end manufacturing lies in high pollution, high harm, and high-intensity labor positions, which is a natural scenario for the implementation of embodied intelligent technology - allowing robots to complete the entire process of startup, operation, and other operations like humans, and then achieve commercial closed-loop. Industry insiders who have participated in the forum multiple times believe that from the exhibition situation, China's embodied intelligence industry is entering a critical transformation period from technological exploration to industrial landing. The future development trend is becoming increasingly clear, and returning to the essence of intelligence and anchoring landing value will become the core logic of the industry's stable and far-reaching development.
