The 14th Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization concluded on the 30th in Yaound é, the capital of Cameroon. During the 4-day conference, the attending representatives achieved multiple results. The conference released a joint ministerial statement on the Investment Facilitation Agreement for Development, marking an important step towards the implementation of the world's first multilateral investment agreement; The temporary implementation arrangement of the Electronic Commerce Agreement will effectively promote the development of global digital trade; Ministerial decisions were reached on issues such as fisheries subsidies, small economies, inspection and quarantine, and special and differential treatment of technical regulations and measures; Significant consensus has been reached on the issue of WTO reform. At the closing ceremony, the Chairman of the Ministerial Conference and Minister of Commerce of Cameroon, Atangana, stated that member ministers are striving to complete as many issues as possible in multiple negotiation areas. However, time is running out on some issues, including extending the exemption of tariffs on electronic transmissions. The Director General of the World Trade Organization, Ivira, said that the conference is very close to reaching a "Yaound é outcome package", but not all of it has been completed. WTO members will continue to work on unresolved issues in Geneva. The Chinese delegation fully participated in the consultations on various topics of this conference, adhered to the core principles of multilateralism and most favored nation treatment of the World Trade Organization, actively promoted negotiations and cooperation, took the initiative to coordinate the positions of relevant members, worked hard to bridge differences, and made important contributions to the achievement of the above results of the conference. The positive and constructive role of the Chinese side has been highly appreciated by the host country Cameroon, the Director General of the World Trade Organization Ivira, and relevant members. More than 120 delegations and over 80 ministers from 166 members of the World Trade Organization attended the meeting. The WTO Ministerial Conference is the highest decision-making body of the WTO, held every two years, responsible for promoting progress in negotiations on key issues, reviewing the daily work of the WTO, and planning the future development direction of the multilateral trading system.
