“One person, one lesson” – sharing “unique expertise”

“Class begins!” On June 16, the Hengyang Garrison of Hunan Province’s “Lingjian Yancheng Lecture Hall” commenced its classes on schedule. On the screen, the instructor shared valuable insights and practical advice based on real-world experiences. Outside the screen, the attendees diligently took notes and actively asked questions.

According to reports, the “Lingjian Yancheng Lecture Hall” has been in operation for over two years and has become a crucial tool for the garrison area in enhancing the capabilities and qualities of its personnel.

Prior to this, during field visits and research, the leaders of this garrison district discovered that many grassroots units had developed various experiences and practices, effective methods, and even “unique skills” tailored to their specific roles.

“We should establish an online communication platform to encourage individuals and organizations to share their noteworthy achievements and work tips on the platform. Through mutual learning and support, everyone can learn from each other’s strengths and weaknesses, thereby enhancing the quality and efficiency of their work while also promoting the development of talent teams.” With this in mind, the garrison introduced the “Lingjian Yancheng Lecture Hall” in the form of “one person, one lesson” – regardless of whether it is a bureau leader, a key professional, a military affairs specialist, or a regular militia member, anyone who has effective practices or valuable ideas in their respective fields can give a lecture, achieving the goal of “one person teaching, many people benefiting; one person improving, the entire team advancing.”

“The lectures should closely align with practical applications and real-world scenarios, and must be actionable and feasible.” A leader from an office within the garrison district explained that, in order to set a good example for everyone, when planning a special topic on “enhancing research and innovation capabilities,” the garrison district party committee leadership conducted numerous in-depth field investigations to address specific problems encountered by the militia organization and recruitment teams. They collected more than ten concrete challenges and ultimately delivered the lectures in the format of “problems + countermeasures + case studies.”

Li Zhuang, an officer at an office within this military district’s headquarters, has extensive experience in integrating history of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and national defense education. In preparation for the lesson on “An Exploration of the Path to High-Quality Development of National Defense Education in the New Era,” he invested considerable effort: he delved deep into the Hengyang History Museum to explore local red resources, meticulously refined the course materials based on numerous examples of national defense education initiatives implemented by the garrison district in schools and communities, and conducted multiple trial presentations and collected feedback within his own unit. “Preparing a lesson requires considerable energy and time, but the process itself is also an excellent opportunity to improve one’s professional skills,” said Li Zhuang.

“One lesson per person” does not involve “one-way indoctrination.” Li Chengjia, the director of the Civilian Military Training Base, conducted a session on the management of war reserve materials. He analyzed and explained various issues, both common and unique, and posed questions such as “What are some practical techniques for preventing moisture in field training materials?” and “How can the process of cross-regional allocation of emergency support materials be optimized?” to encourage attendees to think deeply and come up with their own “little tricks.” The online classroom transformed into a “Conference of Zhuge Liang” in an instant. After the session, the course materials and discussion highlights were shared immediately, and the extension of the exchange continued online. Everyone remarked that this type of teaching was very enlightening.

For the next phase, the garrison plans to organize activities such as the selection of high-quality courses and the evaluation of skilled instructors, in order to further stimulate the enthusiasm of its personnel for teaching and discussion, and to deepen cooperation with local professional forces, thereby expanding the content of lectures and enriching their formats.
