The 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and High-Level Meeting on Global Governance of Artificial Intelligence will be held in Shanghai from July 17 to 20. President Xi Jinping will attend the opening ceremony of the conference and deliver a keynote speech.
The international interlocutors expressed their anticipation of hearing President Xi Jinping’s views on global artificial intelligence development and governance, and believed that China would continue to provide strong impetus for promoting the development of artificial intelligence for the greater good and universal benefit, as well as helping countries in the global South to enhance their capacity-building.
“It is high time to strengthen global governance of artificial intelligence.”
“The attendance of President Xi Jinping at the opening ceremony of the conference and his keynote speech will be a moment of historic significance,” Alex Kakulu, Director of the Kenya Information Technology Law Center, said in an interview with Xinhua News Agency reporters. “The governance of artificial intelligence has become an extremely important issue of global concern. President Xi Jinping’s global leadership has been widely praised, and we look forward to his important statements on strengthening global governance of artificial intelligence together.”
“I am eagerly looking forward to President Xi Jinping’s keynote speech, in which he will propose forward-looking policy initiatives on the development and governance of artificial intelligence, thereby injecting new impetus into strengthening international cooperation,” said Abdulaziz Shabani, a researcher at the Political and Strategic Studies Center in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. “This conference is not only an important platform for showcasing the latest developments in global artificial intelligence, but it also provides a significant opportunity to explore the future direction of global AI governance.”
Zhang Jinrui, a senior data scientist specializing in artificial intelligence at Shell Netherlands, believes that artificial intelligence is becoming an important engine driving global economic growth and technological innovation, while also posing numerous challenges to human society. “I look forward to President Xi Jinping’s keynote speech, which will help to promote the development of policies and ideas that balance innovation and risk management, so that artificial intelligence can truly become a force for the common development of humanity.”
“At a time when artificial intelligence technology is undergoing rapid iteration and making continuous breakthroughs, it is opportune to strengthen global governance of artificial intelligence,” said Tièno Baïlo Diallo, an expert on artificial intelligence from Guinea. “I believe that the important ideas proposed by President Xi Jinping at the conference will provide crucial guidance for the international community to build consensus and strengthen cooperation.”
Hebe Abbas, Chair of the Kuwait Water Sustainability Development Committee, stated that President Xi Jinping attaches great importance to global artificial intelligence governance, demonstrating a long-term strategic vision. As artificial intelligence is increasingly becoming a crucial force in shaping economic and social development and people’s daily lives during this critical phase of technological transformation, “focusing on artificial intelligence governance is both timely and necessary.”
“Promoting inclusive development of artificial intelligence.”
“In the face of rapidly developing artificial intelligence technology, the international community needs to strengthen cooperation more than ever before in order for artificial intelligence to truly benefit society. China is already at the forefront of the field of artificial intelligence. We hope that China will play an active role in strengthening cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence,” said Čađerija, President of the Serbian Chamber of Commerce.
Chen Baihu, President of the Singapore Institute of Asian Digital Economy and Science, expressed great anticipation for President Xi Jinping’s keynote speech at the conference, which will promote global governance of artificial intelligence. “China actively promotes global governance of artificial intelligence and insists on discussing it within a multilateral framework, effectively addressing the concerns of the vast number of developing countries.”

Kwon Ki-seok, President of the Korean-Chinese Friendship Association of Cities, stated, “I believe that President Xi Jinping’s important proposals will drive the inclusive development of artificial intelligence and contribute to the establishment of a more open, fair, and inclusive global governance system for artificial intelligence.”
“This conference is taking place at a critical juncture in the evolution and development of the global digital ecosystem,” said Néstor Labbé, a digital governance and public policy expert at the University of Tananarive in Madagascar. He expressed confidence that the strategic direction and guiding principles proposed by President Xi Jinping will provide crucial guidance for the international community in advancing the development of a global framework for artificial intelligence governance, and will make new contributions to achieving a balance between technological innovation and security governance, digital sovereignty, and international cooperation.
“Making the benefits of artificial intelligence accessible to more countries.”
“We are eagerly looking forward to President Xi Jinping’s important statements at the conference, which will guide the healthy and orderly development of the global artificial intelligence industry,” said Derrick Goto, a scholar from Zimbabwe. “We believe that these Chinese proposals will better benefit countries in the global South, helping us seize the opportunities presented by the new wave of technological transformation and enabling more people to reap the benefits of artificial intelligence development.”
Di Haleem, a member of the Egyptian Foreign Affairs Committee, believes that this conference will mark a “historic moment” in the field of global artificial intelligence governance. “China has extended a sincere invitation to the world to work together to promote the development and governance of artificial intelligence, to fully integrate global scientific research and intellectual wisdom, and to build the broadest possible consensus for development while safeguarding the interests of all parties.”
Chen Ri-Chia, a member of the professional committee of the Regional Strategy Institute, a Malaysian think tank, told Xinhua News Agency reporters that he looks forward to the global AI governance concept proposed by President Xi Jinping continuing to play a leading role in promoting open, inclusive, and pragmatic international cooperation in the field of artificial intelligence, so that the benefits of AI can reach more countries.
