The 7th Gulangyu Music Season kicked off on the 13th on Gulangyu Island, Xiamen. Centered on the theme "Romantic World Heritage, Melodic Piano Island", this year’s event gathers distinguished musicians from multiple countries to stage an all-island grand musical gala featuring diverse cultural integration, further polishing Gulangyu’s iconic reputation as the "Island of Music".
This music season delves deep into the cultural texture and aesthetic value of Gulangyu’s world heritage architecture, hosting immersive musical performances at landmark venues including Gulangyu Concert Hall, the Pipe Organ Art Center, Gulangyu China Film Music Museum and the Gulangyu Art Space of the National Art Museum of China.
Gulangyu China Film Music Museum is China’s first exhibition hall dedicated exclusively to film music. During the music season, the Zagreb Light Music Orchestra will hold the "Summer Movie Serenade Concert" here, while a team from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music will present a highlight concert featuring excerpts from Mozart’s opera The Magic Flute.
The event boasts an impressive lineup of renowned artists. Liao Changyong, baritone vocalist, and Zhang Guoyong, conductor, will join the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Soloists Chamber Orchestra and award-winning students for a special concert. Liao officially became the 10th resident artist of Gulangyu this April. Shi Yijie, tenor and President of the Shanghai Opera House, will deliver a special concert of Italian folk songs at the Gulangyu Art Space of the National Art Museum of China.
In addition, Olivier Latry, chief organist of Notre-Dame de Paris, will stage two pipe organ recitals, and Ludger Lohmann, German organist and professor at the Stuttgart University of Music and Performing Arts, will also give two solo performances.
From July 16 to 24, nine themed performances will be staged consecutively on the waterfront stage at Gangzaihou Beach of Gulangyu, including Folk Ballads Carried Far, Melodies Lingering Long, Music Embracing All Worlds, Resplendent Echoes, Youth Singing at Dusk, Tide Rhythms Riding the Waves, Star Voices Drifting Across the Isle and Soft Songs in the Evening Breeze. Singers such as Ulantuya, Huang Ying, Ji Minjia and An Hu will take the stage in turn. Against the coastal natural backdrop, they will offer high-quality immersive musical experiences for local residents and tourists alike.(Outlook New Era)
