Recently, the Zhongguancun Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Dialogue was held at the Exhibition Center of the Beijing Zhongguancun National Independent Innovation Demonstration Zone. Representatives from United Nations agencies in China and domestic artificial intelligence industries, academic research institutions attended the event, engaging in in-depth exchanges on the inclusive development of artificial intelligence and practical international cooperation.
“From holographic images of ancient Chinese artifacts displayed in three dimensions to robots capable of performing complex orthopedic surgeries, these scenarios reflect the rapid development of China’s artificial intelligence technology.” According to Jishi Heng, United Nations Resident Coordinator in China, with the support of China’s technological capabilities and the United Nations’ coordination and facilitation abilities in multilateral cooperation, all parties can establish a pragmatic and inclusive international cooperation mechanism for artificial intelligence, promoting its development under secure and controlled conditions to better serve sustainable development goals such as poverty reduction, food security, healthcare, and educational equity.
“China plays a significant role in the global integration of healthcare and artificial intelligence.” Martin, the representative of the World Health Organization (WHO) in China, stated that the WHO has collaborated with China to make positive progress in improving community healthcare services, digital health management, and optimal resource allocation. They have also explored applications such as AI-assisted diagnosis. The relevant experiences have been disseminated through capacity-building projects with African and ASEAN countries, helping more developing countries to enhance their grassroots healthcare services and public health standards, and promoting the establishment of a more inclusive and efficient global health system.
Hamid, Director of the Beijing Office of the United Nations Platform for Sharing Information on Disaster Management and Emergency Response, stated, “We have engaged in highly effective collaboration with Chinese institutions and research teams in the areas of disaster monitoring and emergency response. Following the recent earthquake in Venezuela, we swiftly shared data with Chinese institutions to produce a disaster assessment report, which was provided to the Venezuelan authorities for emergency decision-making. This work model has also been applied to earthquake disasters in Myanmar and Afghanistan, demonstrating the crucial role of China’s remote sensing technology and international cooperation mechanisms in rapid disaster response. It also provides a technical path that can be referenced for global disaster management.”
Dora, Director of Child Protection at the UNICEF office in China, believes that in the field of artificial intelligence governance related to children, China is continuously improving its policies and institutional frameworks. Specifically, it has introduced regulatory requirements focused on digital security and risk protection for children, aiming to reduce the risks children may face when using artificial intelligence.
This dialogue was hosted by the Science City Management Committee of Zhongguancun Science Park and co-organized by Beijing Zhongguancun Science Park Innovation and Development Co., Ltd. and the Beijing Zhihui Artificial Intelligence Application Cooperation Center. Tang Chao, Deputy Director of the Science City Management Committee and Deputy District Director of Haidian District, stated that Haidian District has a cluster of top-tier national universities and research institutions, as well as a large number of experts in the field of artificial intelligence and related enterprises. It has established a comprehensive industrial system covering basic models, computing power, open-source ecosystems, and industry applications. Currently, Haidian District is actively promoting the integration of artificial intelligence technology, industries, and talent resources to meet the development needs of countries along the Belt and Road Initiative and the global South.
