2026-07-16

On July 15th, the hottest and most unbearable 40 days of the year officially began.

Recently, the perceived temperature in many places has exceeded 40 ℃, and the heat in many places is even "online" all day long. The power grid is also facing a major challenge, with electricity demand reaching a new high.

Under the scorching sun, industrial ice making and summer tourism have been pushed onto the hot list.

The heat wave is rolling, and the power grid load has reached a historic high

In the next two days, the highest temperature in most areas of Jiangxi will reach over 35 ℃, with some areas reaching over 37 ℃.

Many places in Henan have also experienced high temperatures in the past two days. The meteorological department predicts that from today to the 17th, Henan Province will experience a cooling of precipitation, with some easing of high temperatures in the north and west, but temperatures in the southwest and southeast will still remain between 37 ℃ and 39 ℃.

Today and tomorrow, several districts and counties in Chongqing will experience high temperatures ranging from 40 ℃ to 42 ℃. The urban management department of Chongqing has increased the frequency of operations for vehicles such as sprinkler trucks. The load of Chongqing power grid continues to rise. At 17:11 on the 14th, the unified load of Chongqing power grid reached 30.67 million kilowatts, setting a new historical high.

The reporter learned from the National Energy Administration that after the first record high of 1.518 billion kilowatts of electricity load in China on July 10th, the national electricity load reached a new high of 1.551 billion kilowatts on July 14th. The maximum power transmission across provinces, regions, and networks is 278 million kilowatts, which strongly supports the national electricity security.

High temperature brings fire and "cold" business, ice making factory orders surge

Under the scorching heat, there is a concentrated outbreak of demand for fresh food preservation and cooling of construction sites, and the "cold" economy suddenly heats up. Ice making factories have ushered in the busiest time of the year.

A ice making factory in Zhengzhou, Henan Province is operating at full capacity. Inside the factory, machines are roaring and industrial ice cubes are being demolded, continuously coming offline. Outside the factory, before 8am, there was already a long queue of trucks waiting to load the goods.

Mr. Lu, the purchaser, introduced that the seafood and vegetable wholesale market uses the largest amount of ice. A 4.2-meter truck has to pull five or six times a day, with hundreds of ice pieces per trip.

The person in charge of the ice making plant said, "Currently, the daily production of ice is over 2300 pieces, which is more than 230 tons, and it can basically sell out. The orders have surged by 30% compared to last month." He expects that with the continued high temperature, the demand for ice cubes can increase by about 20%.

Cool summer vacation is heating up

In sharp contrast to the heat wave, there is also a trend of cool tourism that operates in reverse.

According to tourism platform data, the growth rate of bookings for leisure summer resorts in Northeast, Northwest, Southwest and other regions far exceeds the average level.

In Xinzhou, Shanxi Province, the "Cool Scenic Spot - Forest Health and Summer Vacation Tour" route connects attractions such as the Malun Grassland in Luya Mountain, the Wannian Ice Cave, and the ancient city of Xinzhou, becoming the first choice for tourists to escape the heat. In the Luya Mountain Scenic Area, where the average summer temperature is less than 20 ℃, the grasslands are vast, wildflowers sway, and clouds seem within reach; The ice cave that remains below 0 ℃ all year round is like entering winter in just one second; Under the night sky, the ancient city of Xinzhou exudes an antique charm. The iron flower performance is accompanied by cheers, and there are crowds of people in front of specialty food stalls such as Dingxiang steamed pork and Baode bowl holders. Since July alone, the number of visitors to the ice cave has increased by over 60% compared to the previous month, with an average daily flow of 50000 people in the ancient city. It is expected that the total passenger flow in July will reach 2.2 million people.

Entering the Wuying Red Pine Forest Sea Scenic Area in Yichun City, Heilongjiang Province, the century old red pine trees have built a natural forest sea cooling barrier, allowing tourists to cool off in the green mountains and seas. At Jinshan Deer Park, tourists stroll slowly along the trail, encountering gentle deer and experiencing the charm of natural ecology through intimate interactions. Yichun City has launched 8 boutique forest tour routes. (Outlook New Era)
