2025-01-10

Recently, the National Grain and Material Reserve Bureau and seven other departments jointly issued the "National Whole Grain Action Plan (2024-2035)". At the press conference held by the National Grain and Material Reserve Bureau on the 9th, the spokesperson of the bureau, Wang Hong, introduced that China will strive to increase the proportion of residents' whole grain consumption, promote grain conservation and reduction, promote residents' nutrition and health consumption, and ensure national food security at a higher level and higher level within more than 10 years. Wang Hong introduced that with the continuous improvement of people's living standards, consumers are gradually shifting from "eating enough" to "eating well" and "eating nutritious and healthy". Food security should not only focus on quantity security, but also consider multidimensional goals such as nutritional security. Tan Bin, Chief Scientist of the Scientific Research Institute of the National Grain and Material Reserve Administration, introduced that whole grains are not only rich in vitamin B1 B2、 Folic acid, niacin and other B vitamins, as well as trace nutrients such as calcium, iron, zinc and other mineral elements, are also rich in dietary fiber, which helps to reduce the risk of chronic diseases. Research shows that 50 g whole grains per day can reduce the risk of type 2 diabetes by 25%, cardiovascular disease mortality by 20%, cancer mortality by 12%, and all-cause mortality by 15%. The Action Plan proposes to implement four key actions: promoting and guiding the whole grain industry, leading the whole grain standards, innovating the whole grain technology, and improving the whole grain industry. By 2035, the public's awareness of whole grains will significantly improve, the proportion of whole grains in residents' dietary consumption will significantly increase, and the level of whole grain consumption will basically match the level of China's economic and social development; High quality whole grain products that meet the nutritional and health needs of residents are more abundant, and the supply and consumption of whole grain food are dynamically balanced, forming a complete chain, reasonable structure, supply-demand adaptation, and continuous upgrading of the whole grain industry development pattern. Promoting the development of China's whole grain industry is a long-term systematic project. Wang Hong stated that relevant departments will promote the implementation of the whole grain action plan in accordance with their responsibilities, improve the consultation mechanism for promoting the whole grain action plan, strengthen coordination and guidance on the implementation of the plan in their respective industries and fields, increase support for the production, processing, and consumption of whole grains in areas such as publicity and guidance, technological innovation, and quality management, deepen international exchanges and cooperation in the whole grain industry, strengthen policy support, gather forces from all parties, and jointly promote the high-quality development of the whole grain industry. Tan Bin introduced that we need to increase policy support, such as science popularization and education, technological innovation and industry guidance funding support, and encourage local governments to introduce policies to support the consumption of whole grains, in order to achieve the coordinated development of various links in the whole grain industry chain and the integration of agriculture, food, medicine and elderly care, and strive to achieve the goal of "good nutrition and healthier whole grains".
