Using the strictest measures to alleviate the concerns of food additives

2025-02-14

According to reports, the new version of the National Food Safety Standard for the Use of Food Additives (GB 2760-2024) has been officially implemented on February 8th. The new national standard has revised the scope and limits of the use of some preservatives, food flavorings, and processing aids, and added requirements for the total amount of sweeteners when used together in the same food category. The relevant regulations involve multiple types of food. Food additives refer to chemically synthesized or natural substances added to food to improve its quality, color, aroma, taste, as well as for preservation and processing needs. In recent years, with the rapid development of the economy and society and the continuous improvement of people's living standards, people's awareness of food safety has also been constantly enhanced. While natural and green foods are highly favored, many people have developed a certain aversion towards industrialized foods, with the most prominent being concerns about food additives. In fact, the correct and moderate use of additives can improve the taste and appearance of food, extend shelf life, and reduce production costs for enterprises. But it should also be noted that the public's rejection of additives is not unfounded. Currently, there are many companies in the food industry that, in pursuit of personal gain, use food additives in excess of dosage or scope, or use illegal food additives. This kind of abuse poses a threat to consumers' physical health and greatly damages the industry's reputation. The new national standard has undergone significant changes and covers a wide range, almost involving all food production enterprises. This timely responds to public concerns, further clarifies the bottom line for food producers and operators, promotes the development of the food industry towards a more standardized, transparent, and healthy direction, and also helps to enhance consumers' confidence in the food market. To truly implement a good system, regulation needs to keep up in a timely manner. At present, many places have issued notices reminding food producers and operators to actively carry out self checks on product formulas, production processes, packaging labels, and other aspects in accordance with the new national standards. Any situations that do not meet the requirements of the new national standards should be adjusted and standardized in a timely manner to ensure compliant production and operation. In addition to reminders, relevant departments should also increase law enforcement efforts, strictly approve and manage the use of additives, impose serious penalties on abusive behavior in accordance with the law, and effectively maintain the order of the food market. At the same time, it is necessary to stimulate the enthusiasm of internal personnel and consumers to participate in supervision, and strive to eliminate food safety hazards to the greatest extent possible. Food is of paramount importance to the people. The use of food additives is related to food safety and national health. Strictly implement the new national standard for additives, and various regions and departments should take multiple measures, starting from the food sector that is most concerned and strongly reflected by the public, and carry out special governance to prevent the use of food additives beyond the scope and limit. Only by adhering to the strictest standards, regulations, punishments, and accountability can the new national standard be deeply rooted in people's hearts and better safeguard the safety of the people's tongues.
