The 23rd National Occupational Disease Prevention and Control Law Promotion Week was held from April 25th to May 1st this year. In order to adapt to the new situation and requirements of economic and social development, the new version of the "Classification and Catalogue of Occupational Diseases" (hereinafter referred to as the "Catalogue") has added two categories: "Occupational musculoskeletal diseases" and "Occupational mental and behavioral disorders". Occupational carpal tunnel syndrome and post-traumatic stress disorder have been included in the Catalogue, targeting the occupational health "pain points" of manufacturing workers, medical and health personnel, fire rescue personnel and other groups. The formal inclusion of "mouse hand" (carpal tunnel syndrome) into the category of occupational diseases not only reflects the high importance that the country attaches to the health rights and interests of workers, but also marks a solid step forward in China's occupational disease prevention and control work, further weaving a network of protection for workers' rights and interests. As a hand disease caused by long-term use of computer mouse, the incidence rate of "mouse hand" among office workers has increased year by year in recent years. Its symptoms include wrist pain, numbness and weakness in fingers, and in severe cases, even affect normal life and work. Including 'mouse hands' as an occupational disease means that sick workers will be able to receive more timely and effective medical treatment and economic compensation, which undoubtedly provides strong protection for the rights and interests of workers. The adjustment of the Catalogue this time is not limited to the inclusion of "mouse hands", but also adds categories such as occupational musculoskeletal disorders, occupational mental and behavioral disorders, and adjusts the classification of some occupational diseases. These changes reflect the comprehensiveness and foresight of China's occupational disease prevention and control work, aiming to better adapt to the new situation and requirements of economic and social development. Including new occupational diseases such as "mouse hands" in the scope of protection not only helps to improve the pertinence and effectiveness of occupational disease prevention and control, but also promotes the formation of a good atmosphere of caring for workers and respecting labor in the whole society. This is an important manifestation of public policy's concern for the health of workers, and also a sign of the gradual improvement of China's occupational health protection system. It should also be noted that the prevention and control of occupational diseases still have a long way to go. On the one hand, with the continuous emergence of new technologies and new business models, the types and manifestations of occupational diseases are also constantly changing, which requires us to constantly update and improve the occupational disease catalog to ensure the timeliness and effectiveness of prevention and control work. On the other hand, occupational disease prevention and control is a systematic project that requires the joint participation and efforts of the government, enterprises, and workers. The government should increase regulatory efforts to ensure that employers strictly comply with relevant laws and regulations on occupational disease prevention and control, and provide workers with a safe and healthy working environment. At the same time, it is necessary to strengthen the publicity and education of occupational disease prevention and control, and enhance the self-protection awareness and ability of workers. Employers should take full responsibility for occupational disease prevention and control, actively improve working conditions, equip workers with ergonomic equipment, and reduce repetitive work injuries. In addition, a sound occupational disease prevention and control system should be established, employee health management should be strengthened, and occupational disease hazards should be detected and dealt with in a timely manner. Workers themselves should also raise their health awareness, arrange work hours and intensity reasonably, and avoid prolonged and continuous use of computers and other equipment. At the same time, one should actively participate in the learning and training of occupational disease prevention and control knowledge to enhance self-protection abilities. Occupational disease prevention and control is an important measure to protect the health and related rights of workers and promote economic and social development. The inclusion of "mouse hands" in the list of occupational diseases is an important progress made in the prevention and control of occupational diseases in China. This change not only brings hope to workers who have suffered occupational injuries, but also reminds us to face the seriousness of occupational disease prevention and control work and take effective measures to protect the health rights and interests of workers. Only in this way can we truly build a healthy, harmonious, and vibrant working environment, allowing every worker to unleash their talents in a safe and healthy state, and contribute their strength to the prosperity and development of society.
