Smart convenience is more than just a 'touch'

2025-06-16

Not long ago, I changed my ID card and walked into the Wudao Police Station in Heping District, Tianjin. There is a small blue sign on the workbench that says' Touch it, pick up your number for service '. After touching the phone, the system automatically recognizes the identity information and generates a queue number immediately. A nearby citizen said that in the past, the number was not so fast and had to queue up when there were many people. Now, with the system upgrade, it is much more convenient. At present, 308 police stations in Tianjin have launched this NFC sensing number retrieval system. This year's Government Work Report proposes to "develop digital and intelligent infrastructure, improve accessible and aging friendly supporting facilities, enhance community comprehensive service functions, and create livable, resilient, and smart cities." In practice, many places have made public services more accessible and convenient through intelligent transformation, which has been well received by the public. With the high-quality development of the economy and society, the demand for public service facilities among the masses continues to increase. After addressing the issue of whether public service facilities are available, various regions need to pay more attention to the question of whether they are good or not. Among them, digitalization, intelligent upgrading and construction are important aspects. In Beijing, many parks have introduced intelligent irrigation systems that automatically adjust irrigation volume based on weather and soil moisture, saving water resources and improving green maintenance efficiency. In Hangzhou, Zhejiang, the "City Brain" uses big data and artificial intelligence technology to monitor traffic flow in real time, optimize signal light control, and effectively alleviate traffic congestion. The continuous pursuit of high-quality life by the masses is driving the development of public facilities towards intelligence and humanization. Technological innovation is flourishing, and timely application of mature technologies in the field of public services can truly make people feel the powerful power and infinite charm of technology changing their lives and benefiting people. Policies have guidance, and practice leads to innovation. At the national level, the "Overall Layout Plan for the Construction of Digital China" and the "Guiding Opinions on Deepening the Development of Smart Cities and Promoting the Comprehensive Digital Transformation of Cities" have been successively released, among which the guiding opinions propose to "promote the digital transformation and intelligent development of cities". At the local level, the construction of a prefabricated smart public toilet equipped with an intelligent system in the Shenzhen Sports Center in Guangdong Province updates the usage status in real time, designs "tidal toilet seats", and optimizes the toilet experience; Nantong, Jiangsu Province's "stop and pay" smart parking system allows car owners to pay without scanning a code, quickly exit the parking lot, and improve parking turnover efficiency. In response to the trend of digitization, various regions should adopt feasible measures according to local conditions, focus on project construction, and better promote public services to a new level. For public services, intelligent upgrading is the first step, and promoting quality improvement and effectiveness is more crucial. From a practical perspective, some public places have purchased smart fitness equipment, solar powered charging seats, and other facilities for the convenience of the public. However, due to issues such as equipment malfunction and difficulty in reporting repairs, their normal use is affected. The introduction and maintenance of intelligent facilities cannot be separated from capital investment and professional operation and maintenance. How to control costs while ensuring quality? How to ensure stable operation and continuous optimization of equipment? This requires not only the participation of the public sector in management, but also the collective efforts of social forces, such as diversified funding, specialized personnel allocation, and normalized operation and maintenance support. The intelligent construction of public service facilities is a practical measure to enhance people's sense of gain, happiness, and security, and is an important part of smart city construction. The intelligent construction of public service infrastructure is accelerating, ranging from "just a touch, picking up numbers and handling affairs" and smart public toilets to smart transportation, smart healthcare, and smart education. With the continuous advancement of technology, sustained policy support, and multi-party participation, intelligent public facilities will be applied in more fields. Technological progress benefits people's livelihoods, and intelligent upgrading promotes livability, business, entertainment, and tourism, which will surely bring more beauty and surprises to people's lives.
