Experts suggest implementing "on-demand management" for myopic children to promote the refinement of myopia management

Myopia has become a public health issue affecting the health of Chinese citizens, especially the eye health of children and adolescents. It is crucial to establish a scientific and standardized myopia prevention and control system. The White Paper on Myopia Management (2025), led by the Ophthalmology and Optometry Group of the Ophthalmology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, was recently released to promote the refined development of myopia management. The previously released White Paper on Myopia Management (2019) proposed an evidence-based management plan for myopia, while the White Paper on Myopia Management (2022) proposed a personalized management plan to promote the joint application of optical correction, medication, and behavioral intervention. The iteration of the third edition of the 'white paper' has condensed the efforts of countless experts. We have gradually established a scientific, standardized, and operable myopia management system through the development and updating of three editions of the White Paper on Myopia Management, promoting the rapid development of clinical practice in myopia management in China. ”Lv Fan, Director of the National Clinical Medical Research Center for Eye Diseases and Head of the Ophthalmology and Optometry Group of the Ophthalmology Branch of the Chinese Medical Association, said. The White Paper on Myopia Management (2025) explicitly proposes "on-demand management" for myopic children under the age of 12, and emphasizes the importance of early intervention. The White Paper also proposes to build a comprehensive myopia management system that integrates screening, diagnosis, intervention, and follow-up, relying on personalized solutions and technologies such as big data and artificial intelligence. Professor Jiang Jun from the School of Ophthalmology and Optometry at Wenzhou Medical University shared the clinical research standards for high-quality myopia management, differentiated myopia management strategies, and a comprehensive myopia management plan during the interpretation of the white paper. In recent years, guided by the national eye health plan for the 14th Five Year Plan, the industry has been moving towards a more scientific and systematic precision management system. ”Lin Guoliang, the President of Professional Visual Health at Yishilu Xuntika Greater China, said that during the 2025 Vision China International Forum on Innovative Development of Visual Health, innovative solutions were presented, including the launch of glasses covering three age groups of children and adolescents: 3-5 years old, 6-9 years old, and 10-12 years old, further improving the effectiveness of myopia management, and contributing clinical research results to industry reference, providing strong evidence-based support for refined management. The myopia rate among Chinese children and adolescents has been steadily decreasing, but still remains at a high level. Experts and scholars have stated that they will work together to promote a new consensus on refined management of eye health, injecting strong momentum into the "visual defense battle" for Chinese children and adolescents.
