Don't let the power bank become a mobile risk

2025-07-02

In recent days, the power bank industry has frequently experienced thunderstorms. In mid June, a certain power bank brand announced a recall of nearly 500000 problematic products due to defects in the battery cell raw materials, which may cause overheating or even combustion under extreme conditions. Shortly thereafter, another power bank brand also issued a recall notice, involving over 1.8 million products both domestically and internationally. The concentrated exposure of security issues has sounded the alarm for the industry. Nowadays, whether it's for business trips or daily travel, power banks have become a must-have for many people. Due to its wide range of usage scenarios and frequent close portability, if its product quality is compromised, the consequences can be unimaginable, ranging from equipment damage to endangering personal safety, with a heavy cost. Some brands have engaged in unauthorized replacement of key raw materials in battery cell applications, resulting in the failure of diaphragm insulation after long-term use. Seemingly minor technological loss of control is actually a lack of control over the core supply chain and a breach of quality bottom line by some companies. Currently, most power bank brands do not have the ability to independently produce battery cells and can only rely on external procurement. Under the pressure of rapid expansion and low price competition, some companies prioritize cost over quality when choosing suppliers, neglecting the identification and control of key component risks. Although the country has included mobile power banks in the scope of mandatory product certification (3C certification), it is still necessary to establish a more detailed and effective tracking mechanism and revise them in a timely manner to ensure continuous compliance of enterprises after certification. At the same time, the technical threshold needs to be raised to lead high quality with high standards. In terms of certification implementation, a more dynamic and frequent sampling system should be established, and relevant departments should carry out regular supervision and spot checks, focusing on enterprises that have repeatedly failed to meet standards and have poor historical records, and increasing punishment efforts. More importantly, enterprises need to establish a sound internal quality control system and continuously strengthen quality control, which is the fundamental path to establish a foothold in the market and win reputation. From raw material screening to finished product delivery, from supplier audit to batch management, every link should have clear standards and responsibility mechanisms. Only by placing risk prevention and control at the beginning of production design can enterprises achieve the transformation from post PR to pre prevention. During the recall process, some consumers have reported being unable to obtain recall information in a timely manner, or encountering complex processes and delayed responses in the return and compensation process. This also reminds relevant e-commerce platforms and sales channels not to leave the product after it has problems, and to actively participate in the execution of recalls. The State Administration for Market Regulation recently issued a notice on further strengthening the supervision of online sales of consumer goods recalls, which has made clear requirements for this. The next step is to implement it, so that consumers can see, find, and withdraw it. Power banks should be a thoughtful thing to alleviate "battery anxiety", not a hidden danger that exacerbates "safety anxiety". This large-scale recall has brought pain to some companies and sounded the alarm for the entire industry. If the industry continues to ignore the quality red line in low price competition, it will ultimately lose the trust of consumers. Only by prioritizing safety and implementing supervision in every detail, with the coordinated promotion of technical standards, corporate responsibility, and regulatory mechanisms, can power banks become a reassuring choice for consumers.
