Recently, there have been cases of chikungunya fever in Foshan City, Guangdong Province. On the afternoon of the 20th, Foshan held a press conference to explain and provide tips on the transmission channels, typical symptoms, and prevention and control measures of chikungunya fever. According to He Jianfeng, Deputy Director of the Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention, chikungunya fever is an acute infectious disease caused by the chikungunya virus, mainly transmitted through the bite of Aedes mosquitoes (commonly known as spotted mosquitoes). According to He Jianfeng, the typical clinical manifestation of chikungunya fever is first fever, followed by joint pain and other symptoms. Pain often occurs in small joints such as wrist, knee, ankle, and finger joints; After 2-3 days, a rash will appear, mostly papules, which can appear on the limbs or trunk. Generally, the rash will disappear within 3-5 days. The entire course of the disease usually lasts for 5-7 days, and the vast majority of patients have mild symptoms. At present, all the cases found in Guangdong are mild, but at the same time, attention should be paid to newborns and elderly people over 65 years old, especially those with chronic diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and heart disease, who are prone to complications once infected with chikungunya fever. If symptoms such as fever, rash, and joint pain occur, one should immediately seek medical attention at a formal medical institution, proactively report their travel history and mosquito bite history, and actively cooperate with treatment. The key to preventing chikungunya fever is to eliminate mosquitoes, clear stagnant water, and prevent bites. Citizens can kill mosquitoes at home through various domestic anti mosquito drugs, such as electric mosquito repellent incense, anti mosquito tablets, anti mosquito spray, etc. At the same time, common mosquito breeding grounds in households should be cleaned up, including cultivation containers for aquatic plants, trays at the bottom of flower pots, various containers with accumulated water on roofs, and outdoor containers with accumulated water. In terms of bite prevention, citizens can install screen doors and windows in their homes and use mosquito nets during sleep. When engaging in outdoor activities, wear light colored long sleeved clothing and apply mosquito repellent such as mosquito repellent. He Jianfeng stated that Chikungunya fever can be prevented and controlled, and citizens do not need to panic. The relevant person in charge of Foshan City stated that since the virus is mainly transmitted through mosquito bites and not directly transmitted between people, the key to prevention and control lies in mosquito and mosquito control. Next, Foshan City will continue to deepen the patriotic health campaign, clean up mosquito breeding grounds throughout the area, and make every effort to protect the health of the people.
