Effectiveness evaluation is a bottleneck problem that has long constrained the development of the traditional Chinese medicine industry. The reporter learned from the General Hospital of the People's Liberation Army that Professor Xiao Xiaohe's team from the Military Institute of Traditional Chinese Medicine at the Fifth Medical Center of the hospital has proposed and created the integrated evidence chain method for evaluating the effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine for the first time internationally, providing innovative strategies and effective means to solve the problem of evaluating the effectiveness of traditional Chinese medicine. The relevant results were recently published in the English version of an authoritative international pharmaceutical journal. It is understood that in recent years, both domestically and internationally, there has been a call for the establishment of effective evaluation strategies, methods, and standard systems that are in line with the characteristics of traditional Chinese medicine. To this end, Xiao Xiaohe led the team to innovate and integrate clinical experience (preliminary evidence), experimental research (supporting evidence), and clinical trials (confirming evidence), forming an original integrated evidence chain method. This method reflects the characteristics and development path of the "clinical laboratory clinical" bidirectional translational medicine research of traditional Chinese medicine, breaking through the limitations of the current traditional Chinese medicine effectiveness evaluation model and method, which uses randomized controlled trials as the only gold standard. It provides a new tool with operability for building a "three in one" evidence system for the evaluation of new Chinese medicine drugs in China. The demonstrative research results show that the integrated evidence chain method has better industry recognition and fit than the internationally recognized clinical evidence quality evaluation system, and can more objectively and comprehensively reflect the clinical value of traditional Chinese medicine. It can be used for the effectiveness evaluation of classic prescriptions, new Chinese medicine drugs, etc. It is reported that the integrated evidence chain method has been comprehensively included in the "Science of Traditional Chinese Medicine Supervision" compiled by the National Medical Products Administration, and has also been selected as one of the top ten academic advances in traditional Chinese medicine for 2024.
