Recently, the Life Sciences Research Institute of Southwest China University, West China Hospital of Sichuan University, and the Institute of Parasitic Diseases Prevention and Control of the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (National Tropical Disease Research Center) have collaborated to publish a review article, systematically summarizing the epidemiological characteristics, diagnostic and preventive technologies, and comprehensive prevention and control strategies of echinococcosis in the Qinghai Tibet Plateau region. The article proposes the integration of the "human animal environment" concept of "total health" and modern technological means to promote the prevention and control of echinococcosis into a new stage of precision and intelligence. Hydatidosis is a zoonotic disease caused by the parasitic infection of Echinococcus granulosus in humans, transmitted from terminal hosts such as dogs and foxes to humans and livestock. Among them, cystic echinococcosis, also known as "worm cancer", if not effectively treated, more than 90% of patients will die within 10-15 years after diagnosis. About 86% of new cases of cystic echinococcosis worldwide are concentrated in the Qinghai Tibet Plateau region of China. This study mentioned multiple advanced technologies and methods for the prevention and control of echinococcosis. For example, free DNA technology and AI assisted ultrasound imaging diagnosis technology have improved the ability to detect diseases early; The smart collar can effectively cut off the transmission chain of echinococcosis by monitoring the health of dogs in real-time and regularly deworming them; Environmental DNA technology can non invasively and dynamically monitor the distribution of parasites, providing data support for precise prevention and control. In terms of specific prevention and control measures, the study points out the need to strengthen the coordination and linkage between relevant departments such as health, environmental protection, and agriculture and animal husbandry, and accelerate the popularization and application of intelligent monitoring equipment and diagnosis and treatment technology in pastoral areas. At the same time, relevant departments should continue to enhance public health awareness, prevent cross regional transmission risks, promote animal vaccines, and establish an environmental risk monitoring system to form a collaborative prevention and control force among multiple departments. Based on the concept of "holistic health", we should achieve a dual drive of technological innovation and systematic governance, and promote the prevention and control of echinococcosis on the Qinghai Tibet Plateau from traditional models to more proactive and precise prevention and control models. The research team suggests that in the future, early diagnostic techniques, genomics, and transmission dynamics research should be strengthened in scientific research to reveal the genetic diversity and transmission mechanisms of parasites. In addition, research also needs to combine ecological climate and socio-economic factors to construct big data models, providing a basis and guidance for scientifically formulating prevention and control strategies. The construction of remote medical and health education systems cannot be ignored, especially in remote areas such as pastoral areas. Portable diagnostic tools should be vigorously promoted, and the health management of mobile populations should be improved. (New Society)
