Green technology builds a defense line against winter rapeseed diseases and pests

2025-09-23

As soon as Bai Lu passed, Fan Wenzhu, a large-scale grower in Langan Market Town, Chaohu City, Anhui Province, began preparing for winter rapeseed planting. The seeds of disease resistant varieties "Qinyou 1618" and "Fengyou 737" in the warehouse have been carefully selected, and the agricultural machinery has also been properly maintained. Nowadays, when it comes to farming, you don't have to rely on the face of 'heaven' anymore. Since the use of high technology, rapeseed has been harvested year after year! "Said Fan Wenzhu. Once upon a time, Fan Wenzhu also experienced sorrow. In recent years, diseases and pests such as clubroot disease and aphids have occurred frequently, which not only affect the yield and quality of rapeseed, but also increase planting costs. The annual cost of pesticides alone is tens of thousands of yuan. In 2020, just as he was anxious, experts from Anhui Agricultural University brought green prevention and control technologies for major pests and diseases of winter rapeseed in the Yangtze River Basin. Although the technical name is long, he keeps in mind the expert's words: the prevention effect exceeds 80%, reducing pesticide application 1-2 times, reducing pesticide usage by 30%, and increasing yield by about 20% per mu. In the same year, Fan Wenzhu followed the guidance of experts and adopted measures such as selecting high-quality seeds, fitness cultivation, reasonable crop rotation, scientific fertilization, and precise pesticide application. The results were immediate: before overwintering, the root system of rapeseed was well-developed, the stem was thick, and the cold resistance was significantly enhanced; During the flowering period of buds and stems, the previously difficult fungal disease has been effectively controlled. Fan Wenzhu said that after reducing the frequency of pesticide application throughout the year, the control effect has actually improved, and the seedlings have grown evenly and vigorously. What delighted him even more was the change in the pod filling period. He said, "In the past, pods often had empty and deflated pods, but now the pods are full and the seeds are tightly packed. The yield per mu has increased from 280 pounds to nearly 400 pounds last year." This green prevention and control technology originated from the long-term research and development of Professor Pan Yuemin's team at the School of Plant Protection, Anhui Agricultural University. Pan Yuemin introduced that the pests and diseases of rapeseed in the Yangtze River Basin are complex, and only the rot disease often leads to a yield reduction of 10% -30%. Since 2007, under the leadership of Professor Gao Zhimou from Anhui Agricultural University, the team has systematically analyzed the disaster patterns of major pests and diseases in rapeseed, developed efficient and low toxicity pesticides and biological control agents, and integrated a technical model centered on "resistant varieties+fitness cultivation+biological control+precision pesticide application". We promote the implementation of green prevention and control technologies in major production areas such as Hefei, Wuhu, and Anqing by establishing demonstration zones and conducting technical training. ”Yang Guogen, a key member of the team, said that this technology not only promotes the increase in yield and quality of rapeseed, but also reduces pollution, providing important support for the safety of national oil supply. Since 2016, this technology has been promoted in Anhui alone, covering an area of 21.3635 million mu, with a cumulative promotion of 16.39 million mu in the past three years. It has recovered over 340 million kilograms of rapeseed losses and added a net income of 2.544 billion yuan. It has been listed as the main agricultural technology for 2025 by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. Pan Yuemin stated that in response to the challenges of climate change and planting structure adjustment, the team will focus on intelligent monitoring and early warning of important pests and diseases in rapeseed, innovative green prevention and control technologies, and the creation of biological control products. Based on this technology, the team will integrate the entire process of light and simplified green prevention and control technology system for rapeseed in the Yangtze River Basin to ensure the safety of oil supply in China.
