Winter temperature drops sharply, increasing risk of heart attack

Even in the cold winter, it cannot stop the footsteps of athletes. However, the sudden drop in temperature combined with certain disease risks can be fatal for the elderly. Recently, an elderly man in his sixties suffered a sudden heart attack after completing 14 horizontal bar loops, but unfortunately passed away despite rescue efforts. At around 5pm on November 1st, in a fitness equipment area in Fengtai, Beijing, an elderly person in his 60s was exercising on the horizontal bar. The public video footage shows that after completing 14 large circular movements, the elderly person suddenly swayed their body twice and stopped moving, clearly losing consciousness. Many people around quickly stepped forward to rescue the elderly person from the horizontal bar. At this moment, internal medicine physician Tan Zhaoli, who was taking a walk with her child nearby, immediately rushed over. Tan Zhaoli, attending physician of the Oncology Department at the Fifth Medical Center of the People's Liberation Army General Hospital: As soon as I stepped forward, I found that this old man was already in a state where he was unconscious and his pulse could not be felt. His vital signs have started to disappear. After calming down, rescue began. After clearing his respiratory tract, he pressed his heart and performed artificial respiration. The rescue lasted for nearly 15 minutes until an ambulance arrived. Afterwards, the elderly person's family came to the hospital with a thank-you letter to express their gratitude to the doctor, but Dr. Tan was still very sad because the elderly person was ultimately unable to be rescued due to severe illness. Wang Jinda, Director of the Cardiovascular Department at the Fifth Medical Center of the People's Liberation Army General Hospital: This type of patient still has a certain vascular sclerosis foundation (disease), which may not have been particularly severe before. In addition, his intense exercise will make his sympathetic nervous system particularly excited, causing vasoconstriction and spasm of blood vessels. In this cold weather, if you don't warm up adequately and keep warm, the previously mild arteriosclerosis will suddenly form blood clots, causing acute myocardial infarction. The reporter learned from the Emergency Department of the Fifth Medical Center of the People's Liberation Army General Hospital that since November, the number of patients with sudden myocardial infarction admitted to the emergency and cardiology departments has rapidly increased, with nearly 50 cases, more than twice the total number in October. The patients are mainly concentrated in the elderly population. Based on past experience, the number of patients with acute myocardial infarction increases every time the temperature drops. November to March of the following year is the peak period for the incidence of myocardial infarction and stroke. Studies have shown that for every 1 ℃ decrease in temperature, the risk of myocardial infarction increases by 2%. Experts remind that middle-aged and elderly people should be alert to physical warning signals: more than 70% of myocardial infarction patients have symptoms several weeks before the onset of the disease, but are often misdiagnosed as "stomach pain", "shoulder periarthritis" and miss the best treatment opportunity. The occurrence of squeezing pain accompanied by a sense of impending death, upper abdominal pain, toothache, lower jaw pain, sore throat, worsening symptoms of angina pectoris, increased frequency of attacks, prolonged duration, and intensified pain in the middle and upper sternum or precordial area must be kept in mind. Middle aged and elderly people must keep warm and warm up during winter exercise. Wang Jinda, Director of the Cardiovascular Department at the Fifth Medical Center of the People's Liberation Army General Hospital: Warm up before exercise to make the body feel slightly sweaty. Only then can we reduce clothing appropriately and engage in moderate intensity exercise to reduce the stimulation of cold weather on our skin, blood vessels, and muscles. Emergency experts remind that myocardial infarction is not a "geriatric disease". In recent years, there has been an increasing trend of sudden death cases among young adults. Developing good lifestyle habits is the best way to prevent acute myocardial infarction. Young people need to maintain a regular lifestyle, avoid staying up late, ensure sufficient sleep and a peaceful mindset, adhere to moderate aerobic exercise to enhance cardiovascular function, and avoid prolonged sitting.
