Is the toy in the child's hand safe? Many consumers have had such concerns. China is not only a major producer of toys, but also a major consumer and exporter of toys. According to relevant institutions' calculations, the total retail sales of toys in China's domestic market will exceed 100 billion yuan by 2025. The scale of the toy industry is constantly increasing and the variety of products is becoming more diverse. However, at the same time, the emergence of some inferior toys that do not meet standards and have significant hidden dangers in product quality has also brought negative impacts to consumers. Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology has led the revision and improvement of four mandatory national standards, GB 6675.1 to GB 6675.4 "Toy Safety", which have been approved and released by the State Administration for Market Regulation (State Standards Commission) to further regulate the development of the toy industry. What are the new changes in key technical indicators of mandatory national standards? In terms of preventing health damage, limit requirements for 10 types of harmful substances such as formaldehyde, total volatile organic compounds, short chain chlorinated paraffins, and boron elements have been added, significantly increasing the coverage of chemical harmful substances in toy products and solving problems such as children putting them in their mouths, contaminating their arms, and harming their bodies. In terms of mechanical and physical safety, technical requirements for new products such as open flame device toys and food shaped toys have been added, and specific requirements for sub category products such as yo yo, inflatable toys, and suction cup projectiles in the original standard have been optimized to strengthen the applicability of standard technical requirements to the physical safety of toy products. In terms of fire safety, new flame retardant performance technical requirements have been added for head mounted toys such as masks, and flame retardant performance testing methods have been improved for three types of products, including toys for children such as makeup clothing, toy tents, and soft filled toys, to effectively ensure the fire safety of toy products. It's like the passing score used to be 60 points, but now getting 90 points is considered qualified. ”He Yaqiong, Director of the Consumer Goods Industry Department of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, stated that toy products produced according to the new standards can make consumers play more worry free, reassuring, and safe. In response to the quality and safety issues of popular toys such as "Pinche Le" and "Crystal Mud" that have received high social attention, the mandatory national standard revision has also optimized and improved the limit requirements for harmful substances in related products. In terms of formaldehyde limit, it is stipulated that the formaldehyde limit value for key materials of toy products for infants and children under 36 months old should be less than or equal to 30 milligrams per kilogram; In terms of the limit of total volatile organic compounds, the international first proposed a limit value index for the total volatile organic compound release of toy products, which should be less than or equal to 0.5 milligrams per cubic meter, filling the gap in toy standards at home and abroad in this regard; In terms of the limit of plasticizers, the types of phthalate plasticizers will be increased from the original 6 to 10 to strictly prevent the harm of plasticizers to children and adolescents; In terms of boron limit, it is stipulated that the boron limit value for "crystal clay" and similar toys should be less than or equal to 300 milligrams per kilogram. Miao Yuchen, Deputy Director of the Quality Supervision Department of the State Administration for Market Regulation, stated that it will continue to deepen the three-year action plan for safeguarding the safety of children's and student products, focusing on emerging "internet famous" products such as magnetic beads, "blind box" toys, decompression toys, and children's smart watches. It will lock in production enterprise clusters, as well as circulation places such as stationery stores, urban-rural junctions, and trade markets around campuses, comprehensively strengthen supervision, and effectively manage quality and safety hazards of children's and student products, and significantly improve safety levels.
