The National Health Commission held a press conference on the 19th to introduce the relationship between seasonal solar terms and health (winter solstice). Li Shuiqing, chief physician of Peking University Third Hospital, said that painkillers should not be taken arbitrarily for a long time. Li Shuiqing introduced that some painkillers mainly control symptoms and cannot eliminate the cause. Long term use of painkillers may to some extent mask the condition and delay treatment. Of course, for some cancer patients, long-term standardized medication use can alleviate pain and improve their quality of life. In addition, for different types of pain, corresponding painkillers should be used according to the causes. Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as celecoxib and sodium diclofenac can be used for muscle and joint pain; For neuralgia caused by herpes zoster, medications such as Pregabalin and Krigabalin can be used to treat neuralgia. Regarding the question of whether long-term use of painkillers can lead to addiction, Li Shuiqing stated that this mainly refers to some opioid painkillers, such as morphine and hydrocodone, which may have addictive problems with long-term use. However, China has a very strict management system for this type of medication. In hospitals, if used according to the guidance of doctors, addiction will be greatly reduced. Non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs such as ibuprofen, celecoxib, and acetaminophen, which are commonly used in daily life, generally do not cause addiction problems. However, if the dosage is increased, the efficacy will not increase, but the side effects will increase. This aspect should be taken seriously. (New Society)
