At a press conference on the 15th, Hu Qiangqiang, spokesperson for the National Health Commission of China, stated that stem cell therapy must be conducted by qualified professional medical institutions. Some illegal institutions and individuals have been hyping and marketing stem cell-related drugs and technologies, posing risks to public health and property safety. During the same press conference, Hu Qiangqiang pointed out that in recent years, some illegal entities and individuals have exploited public demand for disease treatment and health preservation by stoking anxiety. They have sensationalized the promotion of stem cell-related drugs and technologies, advertising stem cell "anti-aging needles" with false claims such as "reversing aging," "repairing organs," and "curing chronic diseases." Some have even conducted unauthorized clinical procedures like stem cell infusion, endangering both physical health and financial security of the public. Hu Qiangqiang emphasized that, according to relevant regulations, clinical research involving stem cells must be filed as required, clinical translation and application must be approved, and related drugs and medical devices must undergo registration, filing, or approval. It is strictly prohibited to expand their scope of application without authorization. He further stressed that stem cell therapy must only be carried out by qualified professional medical institutions. Non-medical entities such as beauty salons, wellness centers, and cell technology service companies, as well as non-medical professionals, are not allowed to conduct any diagnostic or treatment activities. The health risks arising from such activities are difficult to predict. In addition, Hu Qiangqiang noted that stem cell products and technologies still in the research phase and not yet approved must not be used for clinical applications or charge fees. The public is urged to remain vigilant and safeguard their own health. Anyone who discovers relevant clues should report them to local public security, health, or market regulation authorities.
